AN ULTRA-MARATHONER FROM QUEBEC IS ABOUT TO RUN 8000 KM FROM FLORIDA TO QUEBEC

BY MICHAEL HURLEY
At 49, Joan Roch, an ultra-marathoner, is preparing to run from Florida to Quebec over five months. Joan will have to run 52 kilometres a day to reach his goal.

Joan Roch was previously known for running more than 1000 km from Percé, Que. to Montreal in 2020. This new challenge, however, is an entirely different animal.

To have enough energy to run 52 km a day, the runner will have to consume 6000 to 8000 calories daily, a challenging task for someone in constant motion.

Additionally, Joan has never been to Florida and is unfamiliar with the terrain, even mentioning alligators as a concern of his due to the swampy and humid areas he'll have to run through. Regardless, the ultra-marathon runner seems motivated and ready.
