TRUDEAU SAYS QUEBEC CAN ACCEPT 112,000 IMMIGRANTS DESPITE WHAT LEGAULT CLAIMS

BY MICHAEL HURLEY
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that Quebec has the capabilities to support up to 112,000 immigrants every year despite Legault claiming that 50,000 would be "a bit suicidal."

In an interview on Monday, the prime minister told The Canadian Press that the province is equipped to handle 112,000 new immigrants yearly, more than double the 50,000 goal set previously.

Quebec's immigration minister, Christine Fréchette, responded to Trudeau, saying his comments were "insensitive" to Quebec's attempt at protecting the French language.

This also contrasts with what Legault said in late September, arguing that 50,000 immigrants per year would be "a bit suicidal" when preserving the French language in the province.

The CAQ isn't the only party in Quebec feeling this way; in fact, all parties in the province appear to agree that the number of new immigrants should be at most 100,000 per year.
